Plum Sweeps
Gateway
The Running Mustangs accomplished a
major feat Tuesday by defeating both Gateway squads. The lady
Running Mustangs opened the meet with 26-31 victory. Rachel
Twigg was the race winner at 19:40 on the 2.9 mile course. The
victory was sealed by a strong pack made up of Jess Youra, Val Vandzura,
Leanna Stitt, Heather Zielonka and Brooke Taylor who finished in 4th, 5th, 7th,
8th, and 9th places. The rest of the field also ran well,
including outstanding performances by Lisa Dugan and Diane Sujansky.
Freshmen runners Allison Joyce and Amanda Fischer took it to the next
level with times of 22:31 and 22:37. When it was all over,
the times and places showed how badly the girls wanted the win.
After
cheering the girls to victory, the boys were pumped and ready to take
it to the limit. When the race was over, the boys had results
similar to the girls, a
27-31 win. Just as in the girl's race, it was "the
pack" that won the race for the boys. Cam Christeson was Plum's
top finisher in 2nd place with a 16:35. After Cam, the next
seven Plum runners all finished within a minute of each other.
It was the usual cast of characters that came through again for
Mustangs; Nick Croasdaile 4th, Chris DeRiggi 6th, Matt Giunta 7th,
John Good 8th, Mike Russo 9th, Jason Cechetti 11th, Sean Tuite 12th
and Wade Campbell 14th. The two victories made this year's
Senior Night one to be remembered. |
