JV Girls Place 1st

The Running Mustangs took a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th the 2002 Gateway Invitational.  Seventeen teams entered this years invitational which was run on an alternate "ski slope" course.

 BOYS VARSITY
The varsity boys set the pace for the day with a 3rd place finish.  Cam Christeson led the team with an 8th place finish at 17:57.  "New Kid" Nick Croasdaile continued to impress with a 15th place 18:34.   Mike Russo, Chris DeRiggi and Jon Good in a ran in a loose pack placing 28th, 30th and 34th.  The hard week strict interval training paid off for the boys.

GIRLS VARSITY
The girls' varsity team reached their goal of a top five finish by claiming 5th place.  Rachel Twigg was the top girl with an 8th place finish and a 21:23 time.  Junior Captain Leanna Stitt and Jess Youra finished just two seconds apart and placed 22nd and 24th. The final four girls, Heather Zielonka, Val Vandzura, Brooke Taylor & Lisa Dugan all  finished within 40 seconds of each other.  Coach I was pleased with the effort, but believes the girls have a lot of potential.

GIRLS JV

The Girls Junior Varsity easily won first place with an amazing score of 24.  All five of the top Plum runners were in the top 10 finishers.  Diane Sujansky was the winner of the race and Kelly Tomko was runner up.  Close behind were three freshmen; Ashley Ressler in 4th , Allison Joyce in 7th and Amanda Fischer in 10th.  All five girls had bettered their intrasquad times by at least 2 minutes!  Ten other JV girls also contributed the the Mustang victory.

BOYS JV

The final race of the day saw the Plum JV boys take a second place.  A little excitement was added to the event when the race leaders Matt G.and Chris W. invented their own course and led the entire pack in the wrong direction, TWICE!  I guess that's why they call him Daryl.
Matt Giunta was the leading Mustang in 4th place.  Sophomore sensation Sean Tuite bettered his intrasquad time by 1:40 took 7th place.  From that point on, almost every other runner crossing the finish line was a Running Mustang.  Stephen Frueh finished particularly well by improving 2:28 since last week. see complete results
