Hurdlers Shine at Pine Richland

The Plum hurdlers dominated the field at the Pine Richland Invitational with three first places and a second in the four hurdle events.  For the boys, Mike Hemmerle won the 300 intermediates while Dave Kalatshoff won the 110 high hurdles.  Stef Rameriz ran both events for the girls.  She finished first in the 100m high hurdles and 2nd in the 300m intermediate hurdles.  Great job Coach Silvis and the rest of the Plum hurdlers.

Team Competition Ends

The boys' team ends the season with a 4-5 record as the girls finish at 7-2.  Athletes will now set their sites on the Mars and Pine Richland Invitationals and then on to the WPIAL and PIAA Championships.
School Records

So far,  the 2008 seasons has seen one record broken and  two records tied.   Zach Taylor broke his own pole vault record with a jump of 13' 9".   Also in the pole vault, Lexi Walla tied the school record with a 9' 0" vault.  Stephanie Rameriz tied the 100m high hurdle set in 1980 with a time of 15.3.

  Both Teams 2-2

With wins against Highlands and loses against Fox Chapel, both squads hold a record of 2-2.  Times on the track are coming down with each meet as improvement is also being made in the field events.   Several underclassmen have been gaining valuable experience and earning much needed team points.

Tri-States

Five Plum athletes won medals at the prestigious Tri-State Coaches Championship which fielded 52 teams from PA, Ohio & West Virginia.

Injuries Abound

Several of top T&F athletes have been slowed by injuries and illness this season.  Perhaps the most significant however, was a season ending leg injury sustained by Plum record holding sprinter Bria Jay.   She tied the school record as a freshman, but will have to wait until her junior year to try to improve on it.  Best wishes to Bria!
