ANTHONY MORINELLO ...WPIAL CHAMPION
First seeded Anthony Morinello was listed on paper as the fastest 300 meter hurdler in the WPIAL.  When the event was over, he proved he is the fastest on the track as well.   With the second place runner nearly a full second behind, Anthony crossed he finish line at 38.73, making him the first individual Plum runner since 1976 to take WPIAL gold.   While many in the Track and Field community were surprised by his accomplishments this year,  those close to him knew his relentless hard work and aggressive running style would take him to the top.  Anthony will next compete at the PIAA Championships at Shippensburg University on June 28 and 29.

MUSTANGS COMBINE FOR A 14-4 RECORD
Both the Boys and Girls team finished with 7-2 records, making 2004 the most successful dual meet  season in resent memory.  Both teams feature a well balance distance and sprinting core.  The field is an assortment of athletes ranging from specialists to multi-event athletes.  The pole vault highlighted the field by winning first place at every meet for both boys and girls.  This year's youthful throwing squad held their own and steadily improved all season long.  Great job Running Mustangs and good luck at the WPIAL and PIAA Championships!

POLE VAULT RECORD
Congratulations to Jon Grubbs for tying the 27 year-old pole vault record by vaulting 12' 6" at the Woodland Hills meet.  Now lets go even higher!

SUB 2:00
Chris DeRiggi came one step closer to his goal of the 800 meter school record by running under 2:00 for the first time.  According to Coach I, this has not been done at Plum since the early 1980's.  Good luck Chris!

GIRL MEETS HURDLE
After years of mid distance racing, Senior Val Vandzura has found her true love… the 300-meter hurdles.  Although Val has been a solid mid-distance runner and a fixture on the various relay teams for the past few years, she is reaching new levels of achievement as a hurdler.   Since winning the first hurdle race she entered, Val has never looked back.   Her times have steadily dropped to a speedy 50.2 at the Pine Richland Invitational.

The change of pace has really seemed to refocus and inspire Val to reach new goals and have a memorable senior year.

Morinello Off to a Fast Start
Anthony Morinello wasted no time in leaving his mark on the Plum record books by breaking the 300m hurdle record with a handheld 39.31 in the first meet of the year.   He followed up that performance with a 1st Place finish at the Tri-States Track Coaches Association Champions at 39.98 F.A.T.   The taste of victory was particularly sweet considering the field included the number one ranked hurdler on the pre-season WPIAL rankings, a list which Anthony's name was omitted.  With such a strong start, Anthony has definitely made a name for himself in the WPIAL.

He credits winter track and cross country for helping him get his time down.   His years of hard work and dedication to the hurdles a definitely  paying off.
